How Our Optometrists Can Help with Lasik Eye Surgery
The loss of eyesight can be debilitating and usually happens over a period of time. Even if you have perfect vision throughout your young adult life, your vision is still prone to worsening as you get older. Corrective lenses can help you see clearly, but you will need to update your prescription every few years. If you do not want corrective lenses or to update your prescription frequently, Lasik eye surgery may be the best way to improve your vision. Lasik can help you regain your vision without needing glasses or contacts. If you live in Orlando, our team here at Uptown Eyecare is here to help.
What Is Lasik?
Lasik is a laser surgical procedure that gently reshapes your cornea, allowing you to see without needing glasses or contacts. This surgery can treat common refractive errors, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. It is not recommended for anyone under the age of 18 to have the surgery because your eye's shape is still changing and developing. Past that age, anyone can receive Lasik surgery. In most patients, Lasik lasts about ten years. The length of Lasik's effect depends on the patient's age and circumstances.
Before the procedure, we will put numbing drops in your eyes to make the process pain-free. At most, you will feel a bit of pressure during the procedure. The procedure takes about 10 minutes per eye. After the procedure, your vision will be blurry. It is suggested that you go home after and relax. For the rest of the day, avoid watching TV, using the computer, and doing closeup work. When you wake up the next morning, you should be able to see clearly without your glasses or contact lenses.
Ditch the Headaches and the Glasses
Do you suffer from headaches due to squinting or straining your eyes? Lasik may be the best option to improve your vision. Additionally, if you are tired of wearing corrective lenses or contacts, you will want to determine if Lasik eye surgery is the right course of action.
