Contact Lens Exams

Contact lenses are a great alternative to eyeglasses. Contacts give you a more natural appearance, and you don't need to worry about your vision being obstructed by an eyeglass frame or dirty lenses. They are also great for athletes and people who are active because glasses can be a hassle.

If you are considering getting contact lenses, you will first need to schedule an appointment with Uptown Eyecare for a contact lens exam. There are a few parts to this exam that will help our optometrist fit you with the best contacts for your eyes.

Determine Your Prescription

A contact lens prescription and an eyeglass prescription are different. This is because your eyeglasses sit a couple of inches away from your eyes, and contacts fit directly on the eyes. During your contact lens exam, our optometrist will perform a series of tests to determine your contact lens prescription.

Lifestyle Questions

Our eye doctor will ask you a series of questions regarding your lifestyle to figure out which type of contacts suit you best. Depending on the lens type, they may be changed daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Questions asked by our optometrist will help determine which types of contact lenses will be most convenient for your lifestyle.

Contact Lens Instruction

When your eye doctor has determined your prescription and the best type of lenses for you, they will give you a pair of trial lenses. You will be instructed in inserting, removing, and caring for your contacts. When you can properly insert and remove your contacts on your own, you will schedule your follow up appointment and wear the contacts home.

The Follow-Up Appointment

During your follow-up appointment, our optometrist will test your vision while wearing the contacts to make sure that the prescription is correct and your eyes are comfortable. If you are having any issues, our optometrist will prescribe a different pair of trial lenses are schedule another follow-up. If the contacts are working well for you, our eye doctor will order your supply of lenses.
